Child sleeping

Snoring Treatment:

Snoring is one of the main causes of sleep disturbance in both children and adults. It affects men and women (up to 50% of males snore regularly), and is aggravated by age and weight.

Snoring implies upper airway obstruction. In children, commonly this is due to either enlarged adnoids or tonsils or both. Weight gain is increasingly become a major factor in children and myst be dealt with. The sound is classical and maybe by episodes of apnoes, which absence of breathing. Serious complications including right heart failure may occur. Treatment of snoring in childrern is surgical.

In adults there is often more than one cause involved viz. excessive weight and enlarged tonsils. A deviated nasal septum from previous may also be associated factor.

Snoring and sleep apnoea are two ends of the same disease spectrum. If left untreated, simple snoring may develop into mild apnoea, then severe apnoea and so on.

Daytime Sleepiness:

Snoring can cause increased sleepiness during the day, Hypersomnolence. Daytime tiredness obviously affects the ability to function / perform properly. Driving can be a problem and accidents may happen.
